The Players

About the Play .... in the words of NEIL SIMON

The Good Doctor, of course, is not a play at all. There are sketches, vaudeville scenes, if you will, written with my non-consenting collaborator, Anton Chekhov. Not the Chekhov of The Sea Gull and Three Sisters, but the young man who wrote humorous articles for the newspapers to pay his way through medical school. It was a pastiche for me, an enjoyable interlude before getting to bigger things. It was a joyous experience for me. I met my wife doing this one. Some of the scenes worked; others didn't. The marriage, I am glad to say, did.

Pavla Uppal

About our Director .... PAVLA UPPAL
I would like to share with you that I have always, ever since I was a child, always wanted to be a professional member of a theatre audience. (Garbage collector was my second choice.) As I am writing these words amidst the rehearsals for The Good Doctor show and contemplating final directing touches, I feel contentment that somehow I have been doing it all this time. I had great fun working with Point Ste. Charles Theatre who all have connections to this neighbourhood and who all enjoy humour and challenge that Neil Simon presented us with his play. I especially enjoyed watching actors discover their characters during rehearsals and inhabit the creative space called role-playing. Every rehearsal new drama unfolds in front of my eyes and the magic of theatre captivates me over and over. I am excited to share this magic with you during our shows. Come and watch and discover the joy of being a theatre audience. Looking forward to seeing you at the theatre.

I am a governess. My employer would describe me as a lowly, innocent,
self-effacing, and naïve governess, but the fact that she would nevertheless entrust me with the important task of educating her children says a lot about the way you should interpret that statement.
